What to wear:

For the adventurer; rubber or water proof boots, light rain gear, light day bag or back pack, layered clothing and a waterproof hat.

Additional helpful items include bug spray, lighter or matches and light/dried snacks and foods, bottled drinking water, flashlight, tide book (free locally), and don’t forget the bug spray!. Although water is everywhere, drinking from streams is not recommended.

Local Services:

Petersburg is a full service community with daily jet service (Alaska Airlines) and regularly scheduled ferry service (Alaska Marine Highway system link) from South, (Bellingham and Prince Rupert), and North (Skagway and Haines). The Petersburg Chamber of Commerce (link) has a comprehensive list of local businesses and services.

There are several art galleries that offer Alaska Native artwork as well as a wide range of collectable art and jewelry by Alaskan artists in addition to authentic Norwegian crafts.

The Petersburg Museum provides an extensive local history background from early Native American settlement of the area to the present, including a gift shop.

Guided tours include cannery, local community and island wide tours, wilderness and glacier flight seeing tours and numerous fishing and whale watching charter tours are available.
